Shooting high-volume scrap metal loading and a dramatic bulldozer lift
In 2022, Solent Stevedores commissioned a rapid-turnaround content project to showcase their dry bulk operations at the Port of Southampton, the UK's leading export port, handling in excess of 1.5 million tonnes of dry bulk annually.
This (literally) fly-by shoot saw us recording the surprisingly picturesque process of scrap metal loading operations, including the memorable moment that a bulldozer was lifted into position.
PRE
Pre-Production
This was a fast-paced, focused shoot that made the most of a few hours on-site at the bulks compound. The timing was perfect: we arrived as scrap metal loading operations were in full swing, with the added visual drama of a bulldozer being lifted into position!
SHOOT
Production
The FPV drone work around the bulldozer during the lifting operation made for particularly captivating footage! Getting that moment from multiple angles (including immersive FPV perspectives circling the suspended machinery) created dynamic footage that conveyed the scale and technical precision of bulk handling.
POST
Post-Production
Despite the short timeframe, the variety of shots we recorded, from wide establishing aerials of the Western Docks to close-up FPV clips weaving around heavy machinery, demonstrated what's possible with efficient planning and responsive production in an active port environment! Solent Stevedores used our visuals to showcase their position as a leading UK bulk handler.
