Photographing the next generation of stevedores at the Port of Southampton
A fantastic opportunity to meet Solent Stevedores' workshop apprentices at the Port of Southampton. We brought a crew of four (two for interviews and two for B-roll) to document the stories of young professionals learning the trade in one of the UK's most important port environments.
PRE
Pre-Production
Working closely with maritime PR specialist Hayley Griffiths, we planned a people-focused shoot centred on interviews and workplace storytelling. The aim was to showcase career opportunities and the apprenticeship experience at the port!
SHOOT
Production
We ran a two-stream setup: a dedicated interview team filming in-depth conversations with apprentices, and a B-roll team shooting the workplace atmosphere. It was very cold, so we made sure to wrap up warm! A fun shoot, and great to see the apprentices' passion for the industry.
POST
Post-Production
The resulting video captures the human side of stevedoring: young people building careers in a vital maritime industry. Great to see them complete their apprenticeships at a later date, too.
