LEGO Education Studio launch at UTC Portsmouth

Portsmouth is now home to its very own LEGO Education Studio. Housed at UTC Portsmouth, this new space will teach kids how to program LEGO using specially-designed software! We were excited to be invited along to film the launch evening, hosted by Essential Teaching UK.

Mike got talking with James Doherty, Vice Principal and Director of College Curriculum, and the conversation went from LEGO to drones fairly quickly, as you might imagine! James explained that they’ve been designing and 3D printing drones as part of a day’s work.

He also mentioned one student who programmed a drone to fly autonomously to a model oil rig to collect workers and then bring them back via a pre-planned route. We’re not too far away from this being a full-scale reality!

The new studio aligns perfectly with UTC Portsmouth’s vision. It’s a hive of activity with a large open-plan cafeteria. Open-plan workshops make it feel like a hive of activity; a great place to come and learn! It’s so nice to see the kids having access to such a top-notch new facility.
