Our day out with The Final Straw Solent
Having been reading about The Last/Final Straw worldwide projects we were really keen to get involved as soon as we were able. We heard about The Final Straw Solent which was originally founded in 2018 and decided to go and meet them and get involved!
Upon arrival we were pleasantly surprised by how many helping hands there were. It was great to see everyone getting stuck in and how the youngsters were being taught how to help whilst learning how important it is. It's also a great way to exercise, get some fresh air all whilst helping a great cause.
After I introduced myself to Bianca, Abi and Lissie I made sure all the volunteers were aware filming would be taking place via drone and land equipment.
I spoke with a few of the volunteers and promptly setup our tripod mounted Go Pro camera ready for action! Whilst this was recording I took a few snaps on my Samsung Note 8 to capture the hard work on the ground.
After this I headed off to the bank of shells just off the main beach to setup our DJI Inspire 2 drone ready for take off. After carefully planning my flights and ensuring I could fly safely we were ready for take off.
It was even more evident when viewing from above, the scale of the days operation which was taking place.
It was great to witness the enthusiasm and dedication of everyone involved in the event and the huge difference to this section of shoreline within hours. Please do visit their website and follow them on social media!
Now how about grabbing a cuppa and enjoying the short video we put together for them? Many thanks to Elise May. Environmental Activist & documentary filmmaker for providing us with the interview footage.
The Final Straw Solent are a local charity that has been founded to help clean up beaches and help save our environment and wildlife. Did you know that the UK & USA throw away 550 million plastic straws a DAY?!
