Commissioned by Vivid Broadcast, Solent Sky Services provided aerial drone cinematography for a live GB News world exclusive broadcast from Trump Turnberry, South Ayrshire - subject to full on-site security vetting before operations could begin.

GB News secured the only interview given by a major world figure during his visit to Scotland, broadcast live to a nationwide audience on 3rd May 2023. Vivid Broadcast, the production company behind the live outside broadcast, called on Solent Sky Services to deliver the aerial visuals.

With security extensive and highly visible across the estate, our team underwent full vetting by the on-site security detail prior to flying - a process that reflects both the extraordinary nature of the event and the professional standards Solent Sky Services brings to every production.

Once cleared, it was a day unlike any other:

Navigating the estate with our film cart and equipment, we caught a glimpse of the world figure himself crossing a corridor ahead - one of those moments you simply don't forget.

Behind the scenes we got hands-on with a remote-controlled camera car - a brilliant piece of kit and great fun to use. We were delighted to meet the show's presenter on the day, who was warm, welcoming, and happy to stop for a photo with the team.

We were also delighted to bring our intern along - not a bad introduction to life at Solent Sky Services. At one point the production required two drones in the air simultaneously, so our intern got to take the controls of our smaller drone, with Scottish Police serving as safety observers on the ground. It was his first broadcast flight - and quite the one to start with.

In the air, Turnberry was everything it's reputation promises. Rated the number one golf course in Britain and Ireland, the Ailsa Course and its dramatic Ayrshire coastline provided a truly spectacular canvas for aerial work. Operating under our CAA permissions, we delivered broadcast-grade cinematography that formed part of the visual backdrop to one of the year's most-watched news events.
