Drone Filming an Award-Winning Marine Project: ABP Solent Gateway's Falklands Jetty Upgrade
Film and photo of ABP Solent Gateway's Phase 2 jetty upgrade at Marchwood - captured for the award submission that won at the ICE South East Awards.

Pre-Production
Briefed directly by ABP to capture film and photography of the Phase 2 marine infrastructure works at Falklands Jetty, ABP Solent Gateway, for use in the project's ICE Awards submission. Coordinated access and security clearance for a designated Strategic Military Port environment, agreed the engineering-led narrative the imagery needed to support, and completed airspace planning, risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) for aerial and ground operations on a restricted site.
Production
Captured film and photo coverage of the Phase 2 works at Falklands Jetty, prioritising angles and detail that communicate the scale, complexity and quality of execution of the marine infrastructure project to an engineering audience. Operated within the access and security requirements of a Strategic Military Port throughout.
Post-Production
Selected, edited and finished the film and photography to a standard suited to an ICE Awards submission, delivering content that helped support the project's recognition with the Best Project - Asset Maintenance Award at the ICE South East Awards, won by ABP with project partners Boskalis Westminster, Knights Brown and Ramboll.
Marchwood is a designated Strategic Military Port, and ABP is known for the calibre of locations its sites provide - a point underlined when we later discovered that Amazon MGM Studios’ Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling and Sandra Hüller, had been shot at the same port.
The production built a huge hangar set on site, along with actor trailers and costume workshops supporting a crew of more than 500. Marchwood’s natural tree cover and established security gave the production a private, contained base for its high-profile cast. The port and vessels berthed there, including the ro-ro ferry MV Commodore Goodwill, stood in for a laboratory and nerve centre floating in the Pacific Ocean, used for flashback sequences featuring the carrier scientists and the spin drive demonstrations.
It’s a good illustration of why ABP sites work so well for filming. Large, secure, working port environments with deep-water berths, extensive hardstanding and controlled access give productions the space to build and operate at scale, well away from public view - qualities we see first-hand every time we fly at ABP locations.
