Stanhope House topping out ceremony

It’s common practice in construction to hold topping out ceremonies. Traditionally topping out, which is sometimes referred to as topping off, is a builders rite which is usually held when the last beam (or it’s equivalent) is placed atop a structure during it’s construction.

RGB Group celebrated the topping out of their 19 storey tower on the 28th May 2019 in style. It’s their tallest building yet which has a concrete core and steel frame, has a contract value of £17m and is expected to be completed late 2019. We were fortunate enough to be called in to photograph the event.

Stanhope house is being constructed for Crosslane Student Developments who are part of the Crosslane Property Group. We understand the project is set to be completed on budget and on time ready for the start of the 2019/20 academic year. This scheme is Crosslane’s first development in Portsmouth.

This new development is one of the tallest buildings in the city. Located on the corner of Commercial Road just opposite Portsmouth and Southsea station it’s only a short walk away from the main campus of Portsmouth University. We love the way our city is changing and we’re going to capture it from a unique perspective.
