I was absolutely thrilled to receive a message on my personal Instagram to say that I had won a night’s stay for two at the recently opened Becketts Southsea Hotel. Excited about winning the competition I instantly messaged back to book a room and a table for dinner.
We often dine at Becketts and enjoy a first class experience each time. We were really excited to make a night of it. We said goodbye to Milo who was staying with a friend and set off.
For those that haven’t visited before Becketts Southsea has been one of Southseas most loved restaurants and bars for 30 years. Check out their current video below:
On approach to the Grade II listed building half smooth rendered, half exposed beautiful original brickwork, we could hear our stomachs rumbling! We opened the homely front door and entered a sophisticated, warm, and friendly space.
Upon walking towards the bar we were greeted by a very polite and enthusiastic member of staff called Blake who guided us through the bar seating area, around the fire, through the breakfast room, which has a superb mosaic tiled floor and vaulted roof windows to the check in desk. The walls are clad with aged timber panelling interspersed with mirrors and bare brickwork. On top of the desk was a cute brass sausage dog.
Once Blake had booked us in we were given a code to enter the boutique hotel - James Bond Style. On the journey up to our room we climbed the wooden stairs up to the top room, No.6, entered a code to get into our stunning room, we quickly popped our bags down, headed down for dinner and decided to explore later.
As we walked past the bespoke wooden bar we were seated on the comfy velvet seats in the dining area. The decor and low lighting really set the mood, as we scanned the sumptuous menu we were given our complimentary glasses of wine, one white for me, one red for Mike, both of which were Becketts own which were spot on!
I chose the Becketts Surf & Turf and Mike chose the Duck. My mouth is watering writing this…
Surf & Turf Becketts style
Crispy pork belly, tiger prawns, garlic and chilli samphire, potato rosti, honey and wholegrain mustard thermidor
Confit duck leg
Rainbow chard, sticky red cabbage, buttered mash,
My perfectly cooked pork belly with super tasty crackling just blew me away, this was topped with four huge tiger prawns, samphire, and a sauce the gods made. Mikes duck looked amazing, I asked him to save me a bit, but he didn’t. This usually means it’s far too good to share! Here’s a picture of our meal:
When our plates were cleared we moved to the front bar area for a couple of drinks. We sat enjoying a Becketts Prosecco and Expresso Martini whilst peering out the beautiful window at the Narnia lamp illuminating the street. Shortly after and tired after busy days we headed up stairs to our room.
As we walked into the room it felt like pure luxury, every detail had been thought about. The unique open air wet room was divine with a high finish, great shower, rituals products, and the frosted glass room divide was marvellous.
The super king size bed was the best bed I’ve ever slept in. It was like a massive hug, and whilst I knew Mike was in the bed there was plenty of room for both of us! The Smart TV had Mike entertained for what seemed like hours, he loved the remote! Simple things.. I wish I could stay in this room every night.
It’s evident Southsea is becoming more up market, and this hotel fits the bill. I look forward to recommending Becketts Southsea to friends & family. We feel like we had a 5 star experience.
